The North West is a peaceful province with a year round, sunny climate, exciting wildlife destinations free of malaria and various cultural and historical attractions.
It is an area of wide, hot plains. It was once covered entirely in scrub vegetation and thorn trees, but is now an important agricultural region. Within the Province lies the famous Sun City leisure resort offering a host of activities ranging from world-class golfing, gambling, games, extravaganzas, a valley of waves with a beach, cinemas and restaurants
The Sun City
Resort is one of the most remarkable destinations in Africa. This man-made complex is approximately a 2 hour
drive from Johannesburg and houses the 2nd Largest Casino in the world - outside the USA. It has an entertainment
area and is also well known for it's golf course. The Lost City complex includes the majestic Palace hotel,
it's own jungle, a large swimming area, artificial beach, waterfalls and streams. This vast complex, nearly
20 km in circumference, is an enormous, opulent extravaganza of luxurious hotels, glittering entertainment centre, restaurants,
gaming rooms, shops, discos and extensive, beautifully landscaped grounds, rated among the world's most unusually
conceived, and most lavish, inland resorts.
Adjoining the Resort is the beautiful Pilanesberg National
Park, which will delight game viewers as it is a malaria free zone and home to the Big 5. The 4th Largest National
Park in Southern Africa, the park covers an area of more than 500 Square Kilometers and lies on an extinct
volcanic alkaline crater and has a large variety of wildlife. The Pilanesberg, is today one of the subcontinent's
premier tourist attractions. Currently some 10 000 head of game graze, browse, hunt and scavenge in the dense
bush and wooded riverine valleys. It is also one of the few Southern African parks that contain a near-complete
assembly of the area's original fauna.
